You got 600 on SAT maths. Is that good? The answer depends on how your score compares with other students and on your own goals. In this guide you will learn what a good SAT math score is, how the score is worked out, and how to raise it.
A score only means something next to others.
SAT maths: 200 to 800
What is a good SAT math score?
A good SAT math score depends on your goals, but percentiles give a clear guide: 600 is as good as or better than about 75% of SAT takers, and 700 about 91%. These figures are the College Board’s percentiles for students who took the SAT.
Each university decides what it wants, so check the score ranges on the website of each university you plan to apply to.
In one line
A good score is one that beats most other test takers and fits your university list.

How SAT maths is scored, step by step
You answer two modules. Your result in Module 1 decides whether Module 2 is harder or easier.
Your score uses which questions you got right, how hard those questions were, and the chance that you guessed. This method is called item response theory.
You get a maths score from 200 to 800, a score range that shows how much your score could change on another day, and percentiles that compare you with other students.
Watch out!
Do not trust a simple “number right to score” table for the digital SAT. Because harder questions count differently, two students with the same number of right answers can get different scores. The College Board also says that for most students it is better to guess than to leave a question blank.
SAT math score percentiles: how your score compares
A percentile tells you the share of students who scored the same as you or lower. These are the College Board’s “user” percentiles, based on the real SAT scores of students who finished school in the past three years.
500 → 50th percentile
About half of SAT takers scored 500 or lower in maths.
600 → 75th percentile
Better than or equal to about 3 in 4 SAT takers.
700 → 91st percentile
Better than or equal to about 9 in 10 SAT takers.
750 → 95th percentile
Only about 5 in 100 SAT takers score higher.
Other steps on the same table: 550 is about the 64th percentile and 650 about the 84th. A perfect 800 is in the 99th percentile and above.
When do SAT scores come out? 2026–27 dates
Most scores come 2 to 4 weeks after the test. Plan your test date so the score arrives before your university deadlines. The SAT dates are the same in the UAE as in the US.
Test on 5 December 2026
Register by 20 November. Scores on 18 December 2026.
Test on 6 March 2027
Register by 19 February. Scores on 19 March 2027.
Test on 1 May 2027
Register by 16 April. Scores on 14 May 2027.

SAT-style math practice questions with answers
These are practice questions in the style of the SAT. They are not real past questions. Work each one out first, then tap to check.
1. In a group of 40 students, the ratio of boys to girls is 3 : 5. How many girls are there?
The ratio has 3 + 5 = 8 parts. Each part is 40 ÷ 8 = 5 students. Girls: 5 × 5 = 25.
2. The mean of 4 numbers is 12. Three of the numbers are 10, 14 and 9. What is the fourth number?
The 4 numbers add up to 4 × 12 = 48. The three you know add up to 33. The fourth is 48 − 33 = 15.
3. A right triangle has two shorter sides of 6 cm and 8 cm. How long is the longest side?
Use Pythagoras: 6² + 8² = 36 + 64 = 100. The longest side is √100 = 10 cm.
4. If 2x + 1 = 32, what is the value of x?
32 = 2⁵, so x + 1 = 5 and x = 4.
How to raise your SAT math score
Most score gains come from fixing the basics and from practice under real timing.
Fix the biggest areas first
Algebra and Advanced Math give 26 to 30 of the 40 scored questions. A strong base there lifts your score the most, and it helps you reach the harder second module.
Practise with the real timing
Use the College Board’s official full-length practice tests in the Bluebook app. Each maths module gives you 35 minutes for 22 questions, so learn your pace.
Did you know?
The College Board’s maths benchmark is 530. A student at or above it has about a 75% chance of a C or better in first-term college maths, according to the College Board.
