Your SAT is two months away. Where do you start? In this guide you will learn a simple 8-week plan for SAT math practice, how to use the free official tools, and how to check that your practice works.
Test, review, practise, repeat.

SAT math practice: what does a good plan look like?
Good SAT math practice follows a loop: take a full practice test, find the skills you missed, practise those skills, then test again. Doing many random questions is not enough. You need to know why each mistake happened.
This plan gives you 8 weeks. It uses free official tools from College Board, the group that makes the SAT.
In one line
Practise what you got wrong, not what you already know.
SAT math: key facts for your plan
Plan your practice around the real format of the test.
Questions
40 count. 4 are trial questions.
Minutes
2 modules of 35 minutes each.
Modules
Module 2 depends on how you did in Module 1.
Algebra focus
Algebra plus Advanced Math, of scored questions.
Facts checked on 2 November 2026 on the official SAT website (satsuite.collegeboard.org). Rules can change, so always check the official site.
The 8-week SAT math practice plan, step by step
Week 1: take a full practice test. Use a full-length practice test in the Bluebook app, with the timer on. Then look at your score and answers in My Practice. Write down every skill you missed.
Weeks 2 and 3: fix Algebra and Advanced Math. These two areas give about 70% of the scored questions. In the Student Question Bank you can choose questions by domain, skill and difficulty.
Week 4: take the second practice test. College Board suggests at least two weeks between practice tests. Compare the two results. Which skills got better?
Weeks 5 and 6: add the other two areas. Practise Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry. Also do timed sets: 22 questions in 35 minutes, like one module.
Week 7: take the last practice test. College Board suggests a practice test at least two weeks before test day. Review every wrong answer.
Week 8: review and rest. Go over your list of mistakes. Do short mixed sets. Sleep well before test day.
Watch out!
Do not just check the right answer and move on. College Board advises you to find out why you missed a question. Was it a skill gap, a reading slip or the clock? Each cause needs a different fix.
When to start: 8 weeks back from each SAT date
The SAT dates in the UAE are the same as in the US. Count 8 weeks back from your test date to find your Week 1.
SAT on 5 December 2026
Week 1 was 10 October. If you start now, use a short plan: one practice test this week, then focus on Algebra and Advanced Math. Register by 20 November.
SAT on 6 March 2027
Start on 9 January 2027, just after the winter break. Register by 19 February.
SAT on 1 May 2027
Start on 6 March 2027. Register by 16 April.
SAT on 5 June 2027
Start on 10 April 2027. Register by 21 May.
Add these to your plan
If you need to borrow a device from College Board, ask at least 30 days before the test. Five days before the test, open Bluebook and finish the test setup to get your admission ticket. If your plan runs through Ramadan or school assessments, keep the practice tests and make the daily sessions shorter.
The maths to practise for the SAT
The SAT tests four areas of maths. College Board gives the share of the scored questions for each one. The counts are out of the 40 scored questions.
Algebra: about 35%
About 14 questions. Linear equations, inequalities and functions, and systems of linear equations.
Advanced Math: about 35%
About 14 questions. Equivalent expressions, and nonlinear equations and functions, such as quadratics.
Problem-Solving and Data Analysis: about 15%
About 6 questions. Ratios, rates, percentages and data. Strong fraction skills help here.
Geometry and Trigonometry: about 15%
About 6 questions. Area, volume, angles, triangles, right-triangle trigonometry and circles.
SAT-style math practice questions with answers
These are practice questions in the style of the SAT. They are not real past questions. Work each one out first, then tap to check.
1. 2x − 5 = 3x − 12. What is the value of x?
Take 2x from both sides: −5 = x − 12. Add 12 to both sides: x = 7.
2. A taxi charges a start fee of AED 12, plus AED 2.50 for each km. A trip costs AED 47. How many km long is the trip?
Take away the start fee: 47 − 12 = 35. Divide by the price per km: 35 ÷ 2.5 = 14 km.
3. f(x) = 2x² − 8x + 3. What is the minimum value of f(x)?
The lowest point is at x = 8 ÷ (2 × 2) = 2. Then f(2) = 8 − 16 + 3 = −5. You can also graph f(x) in Desmos and read the lowest point.
4. A right triangle has legs of 9 cm and 12 cm. What is the sine of the smallest angle?
The hypotenuse is √(81 + 144) = √225 = 15 cm. The smallest angle is opposite the shortest side, 9 cm. So sine = 9 ÷ 15 = 3/5.
How to make every week of SAT math practice count
Two habits make the biggest difference to a practice plan.
Keep a mistake list
For each wrong answer, write the skill, the cause and the fix. Do the same type of question again three days later to check that the fix works.
Practise like test day
Use a timer: one module is 35 minutes for 22 questions, which is a little over 1.5 minutes each. Practise with the same calculator you will use on test day.
Did you know?
The Desmos calculator in Bluebook has two modes, graphing and scientific. You can switch between them at any point in the Math section. You can also bring your own approved calculator.
